Tired on a Tuesday morning

My mind is awake, but my body feels asleep. In quoting someone from last night's online poker games, "I need toothpicks to keep my eyes open." At the time, I wanted badly to comment on how they shouldn't put toothpicks in their eyes, explicating on the more literal connotations of the sentence. But I didn't. Should I have?
